SafeRxPrescribing includes psychiatrists, psychologists, patients, family members, and mental health patient advocacy organizations. The group opposes allowing people who are not medically trained, like psychologists, to prescribe powerful psychiatric drugs. Enabling psychologists to prescribe powerful psychiatric drugs won’t increase access to mental health care. It will instead create a new problem: letting people without needed training and expertise prescribe powerful drugs that could risk patients’ health and safety.
